SGA Participation

2023

Ms. Michelle Arnot, Gray Panthers NYC, delivered a statement on behalf of the SGA at the opening of the Hight Level Political Forum on 10 July 2023, which addressed “Overcoming the crises, driving transformation for the SDGs and leaving no one behind”

 Mr. Elie Mugabowishema, President of NSINDAGIZA Organization, which promotes the rights of older persons in Rwanda and the co-founder of and Chairman of the Rwanda “Leave No One Behind Network”, represented the SGA and made a statement at the official session of the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders at the High Level Political Forum on 14 July 2023 which addressed the mid-point of the SDGs – towards inclusive transformation.

Ms. Ina Voelker, Head of the Secretariat for International Policy on Ageing at BAGSO, the German National Association of Senior Citizens’ Organisations, represented the SGA at the Expert Group Meeting held in Bilbao, Spain, on SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), from 8 to 9 February 2023  https://sdgs.un.org/events/egmforsdg11.


2022

Two representatives from SGA members were selected by the United Nations to participate in two sessions of the HLPF:

Mr. Bruce Frankel, Pass It On Network, as a discussant in the session “Acting at local level”, 6 July 2022

Dr. Robin Fenley, International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, as a discussant in the session “Vision of civil society: leaving no one behind in recovering better”, 12 July 2022

Two representatives from SGA members were selected by the United Nations to participate in two preparatory events:

2021

Representatives from three SGA members participated in the Expert Group Meetings convened during the week 17-21 May 2021 to discuss each of the SDGs selected for review:

Dr. Simone Cernesi, International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care, for SDG 3 (health).

Dr. Rosy Pereya, International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse, for SDG16 (inclusive societies).

Dr. Jan Hively, Pass It On Network, for SDG 17 (strengthening means of implementation).

Dr. Jane Barratt, Secretary-General of the International Federation on Ageing was  invited by the United Nations/Department of Economic and Social Affairs to moderate the thematic session “Ensuring that no one is left behind” on 6 July 2021

Dr. Kiran Rabheru, ILC-Canada, was selected by the United Nations to be a panelist in the thematic session organized by the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders on 9 July 2021  – “Vision and priorities of civil society, the private sector and other major groups and stakeholder: realizing the SDGs during the COVID-19 recovery”.
